One of the two has a "hum" in the output, you hear it through a speaker. Ounded nice except the hum from one unit. I would suspect an aged capacitor to be at fault but certainly not saying that is actually the issue.
You can hear faint mechanical hum from both units regulators on the power supply boards, may be normal? Units are being offered in as is condition for repair or restoration only. The 8 pages of information from Curcio Audio, parts lists, wiring diagrams, schematics etc. I simply do not have time to do anything with these right now. With a bit of work, these could be some real bad boys again. Curcio Audio Engineering still sells this Premium upgrade however it is updated and completely redesigned. Joe Curcio looked at photos of these amps/upgrades, identified the upgrades, and stated they were still supported and serviceable. You can view detailed information on the current version of these upgrades at the Curcio Audio website. One of the nice things about the MKIII are that the RCA inputs and everything else are all on one side, unlike most.
It makes for a much nicer, cleaner look and installation if that side is facing away from sight. Located on that side also. I call that side the back side although it is actually the front.Be aware, these units have Dynaco Vintage Transformers, these were designed to operate between. 110v up to 124v AC current. Today's AC current at your home may be slightly higher. Outlet tested for its actual voltage.
If you have 125v or higher at the receptacle, one solution is the. Use of a "bucking transformer" also known as a voltage step down or voltage reducing transformer. A variac may also be used to supply proper voltage to the amplifiers. The proper voltage has sonic. Benefits and equally as important, the transformers operate within their designed range.
Being designed for certain amounts of voltage and will sound much better when operated in. The reliability and lifespan of the units will benefit greatly when operated at proper. Tubes will be removed and packed securely with each unit. The item "DYNACO MKIII monoblock Tube Amplifiers / Curcio Audio Premium Upgrades / DYNAKIT" is in sale since Friday, December 27, 2019.
