MARANTZ 5 Monoblock Tube Amps - w/ premium Mullard xf1 EL34, GZ34 tubes. The second owner was the ex-Stereophile tuner reviewer, Don Scott, who was a good friend of mine. They were GIVEN to him by his neighbor a long time ago.

The amps are in excellent cosmetic and operating condition. I used them on a number of speakers over the years, including Altec Valencias and Jensen Imperials, with great results. Please note the premium quality tubes being offered with these amps: two matched pairs of strong testing Mullard xf1 (wide base) EL34 output tubes, RCA clear top 6FQ7/6CG7 driver tubes, Amperex PQ E90F input tubes (premium quality direct European replacement for American 6BH6), and Mullard wide base xf1 5AR4 rectifiers. The only repair done to them was the replacement of a faulty cathode bypass capacitor for the input tube in one amp.

In order to keep symmetry, it was replaced in the other amp, too. This was done by a professional tube technician, who bench tested them after the repair and they exceeded original specs. I also had the main filter capacitor can on the top of the amp replaced with the exact copy that was made in the 1990s by VAC (Valve Amplification Company) for their Marantz reissue tube amps. Hooked up to even a highly efficient horn speaker like the Jensens, they are dead quiet. They were working fine, but installation of the new cans did made the sound a bit cleaner and more dynamic.

The power cord jackets are cracking a bit due to age, but it only reveals the insulation below and not the wires underneath. I used them this way just fine, but you may want to have the power cords replaced. Serial numbers are: 1446, 1473. No cages come with the amps.

Also, the Marantz badges on the front were not there when I bought them.
