Pair of McCurdy AM-403 Mono Block Tube Power Amplifiers

Please contact me first for that matter. The units are in good cosmetic and operating condition, were used sparingly by the a recording studio in Ontario, Canada. Specialized in building broadcasting and studio equipment and electronics in the'50s to'70s. The circuit design in these units were patented by McIntosh of Binghamton, N. The transformers were greatly enlarged to improve the efficiency for the continuous operation as required in a studio.

The driving power sounds much more than the specified 30 watts. It is comparable to, or even surpassing, the McIntosh MC240 in power and sonic quality.

This pair brings out the best sound that the EL34 tubes are capable of. Very forceful bass, detailed mid, and crispy hi. One of the power transformers had a new winding from a transformer expert from Massachusetts, to get rid of the slight hum. Both transformers now are operating in deadly quiet condition. Both the power and the output transformers were professionally repainted.

Tube complements: 2 x EL34, 2 x 12AX7, 1 x 12AU7, 1 x 12BH7, 1 x 5AR4/GZ34. The circuit design is almost parallel to that for the MC240 and MC270. The four EL34 and 5AR4/GZ34 tubes are all by Mullard.

Output (brought out from the multi-taps output transformer, as seen in photo) is 8 Ohm. The units run very quietly. Equipped for rack mount, as well as bench top placement. Weight: the units are heavy, the net weight of each is 32 Lbs (due to the massive transformers).
